There are fourteen or fifteen generations of Jaredites discussed in Ether 10. According to the Jaredite genealogy, Shez was a son of Heth even though he is called a descendant in the above text (v. 1). Shez was a good king but little is known of him in the four verses quoted above. Noah, son of Zeniff, a Nephite king, is a carbon copy of Riplakish, son of Shez, who succeeded his father (v. 5). A comparison of Riplakish with Noah shows that they both had many wives and concubines, heavy taxation, and beautiful buildings adorned with precious things (see Mosiah 11:1–11). The length of King Noah’s reign is not given, but both reigned for a generation (Riplakish for 42 yrs). Both kings were killed by their own people (Ether 10:8 and Mosiah 19:20).
