Redaction: From here to the chapter’s end, Moroni discourses on the evils of secret combinations. His first point is that they achieve their ends through murder, a characteristic Mormon also associates with secret combinations. (See Helaman, Part 1: Context, Chapter 3, “The Gadianton Robbers in Mormon’s Theological History: Their Structural Role and Plausible Identification.”) Moroni asserts that Yahweh will never instruct men to kill for gain; therefore, by implication, this plan must come from an evil source.
