Moroni is commanded to write and then seal up the record concerning the brother of Jared and his kinsmen. Moroni proclaims the charge given him by the Lord pertaining to the future readership of the work, i.e., that the Spirit is to confirm the truth of these things to those who receive them in faith (see Ether 4:11) as long as they “rend that veil of unbelief which doth cause you to remain in your awful state of wickedness, and hardness of heart, and blindness of mind” (Ether 4:15). In this manner, the analogy with the experience of the brother of Jared is extended to all those who will believe the message of the Book of Mormon. For such the veil will be lifted to reveal “the marvelous things which have been hid up from the foundation of the world from you” (ibid.).
The sign for the ushering in of the era wherein this promise will be fulfilled is the coming forth of the Book of Mormon in the latter days. The Book of Mormon was preserved by the hand of God and brought forth and translated by the gift and power of God (see Enos 1:13–18; Mosiah 12:8; 28:20; title page Book of Mormon, paragraph 1). It has been prophesied to come forth (see Psalm 85:11; Isaiah 29:9–14; Ezekiel 37:15–20; Revelation 14:6; 2 Nephi 29:8). The Prophet Joseph said: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book” (HC 4:461).
The work of the Lord has commenced. The Book of Mormon has come forth and is being circulated to millions upon millions of people in all quarters of the world. These are the final hours of the last days. It is a matter of urgency for all to repent and prepare for the return of the Lord and the ushering in of the millennial reign, “for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them” (Jeremiah 31:34).
