“Jesus Had Ascended into Heaven”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

At the end of the first day’s instruction, Jesus ascended into heaven, and families dispersed to their own homes to fulfill the Savior’s instruction to ponder the meaning of events just witnessed. Throughout the night notice was sent forth, and people from all over toiled to be in place the next day. Originally only twenty-five hundred of the most righteous were in attendance at the temple site, where Jesus would show himself again. Can we imagine that there would have been any who would not have expended every effort to be there? Why do some today not extend even modest effort to be in appointed places designated by the same Savior through his authorized servants? The next day the multitude was so expansive they had to be separated into twelve bodies.

The names of Jesus’ twelve disciples (apostles; Moroni 2:2) are given. As with the original Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in the land of Israel, there are sets of brothers and other relatives.62
