In verse 4 it says the disciples partook of the bread "until they were filled." Even among the early Christians in Jerusalem it seems to have been customary to furnish rather large portions of the bread to each disciple rather than merely provide small portions as we do today. This led Paul to protest making a meal out of the sacrament. He said: "If any hunger let him eat at home."1
