In Mormonism, there is a “law of witnesses” that suggests God will manifest spiritual truth in at least two ways. For instance, when Jesus is baptized in the New Testament, God the Father speaks and the Holy Ghost appears as a dove—two separate witnesses of Christ’s calling and mission. Mormons believe that the Book of Mormon itself is “another testament,” or witness, of Jesus Christ, which stands alongside the Bible offering additional testimony and information about the Savior. Here, the law of witnesses can be seen in the fact that Christ uses both sight and touch to convince the Nephites that he has died. They see the wounds, and he invites them to touch his side, hands, and feet.
