Why didn’t Laman and Lemuel and the others in rebellion simply leave Nephi and return to Jerusalem?

Thomas R. Valletta

Jacob, Nephi, Moroni, and perhaps others record that they will meet us on the Day of Judgment at the bar of God. “Jacob bade us farewell until he meets us before the pleasing bar of God; compare similar expressions from Nephi (2 Nephi 33:14) and Moroni (Ether 12:38; Moroni 10:34)” (Ogden and Skinner, Book of Mormon, 1:282). Why is the bar of God ‘pleasing’ to Jacob? To the righteous, the judgment bar will be pleasant and joyful.
